NEW BOB DYLAN ALBUM – TEMPEST – SET FOR SEPTEMBER RELEASE

COLLECTION OF TEN NEW BOB DYLAN SONGS
MARKS MUSICIAN’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY AS A RECORDING ARTIST

Columbia Records announced today that Bob Dylan’s new studio album, Tempest, will be released on September 11, 2012. Featuring ten new and original Bob Dylan songs, the release of Tempest coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the artist’s eponymous debut album, which was released by Columbia in 1962.

Tempest is available for pre-order now on iTunes and Amazon. The new album, produced by Jack Frost, is the 35thth studio set from Bob Dylan, and follows 2009’s worldwide best-seller, Together Through Life.

Bob Dylan’s four previous studio albums have been universally hailed as among the best of his storied career, achieving new levels of commercial success and critical acclaim for the artist. The Platinum-selling Time Out Of Mind from 1997 earned multiple Grammy Awards, including Album Of The Year, while “Love and Theft” continued Dylan’s Platinum streak and earned several Grammy nominations and a statue for Best Contemporary Folk album.

Modern Times, released in 2006, became one of the artist’s most popular albums, selling more than 2.5 million copies worldwide and earning Dylan two more Grammys. Together Through Life became the artist’s first album to debut at #1 in both the U.S. and the UK, as well as in five other countries, on its way to surpassing sales of one million copies.

Those four releases fell within a 12-year creative span that also included the recording of an Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning composition, “Things Have Changed,” from the film Wonder Boys, in 2001; a worldwide best-selling memoir, Chronicles Vol. 1, which spent 19 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller List, in 2004, and a Martin Scorsese-directed documentary, No Direction Home, in 2005. Bob Dylan also released his first collection of holiday standards, Christmas In The Heart, in 2009, with all of the artist’s royalties from that album being donated to hunger charities around the world.

This year, Bob Dylan was the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country’s highest civilian honor. He was awarded a special Pulitzer Prize in 2008 for “his profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power.” He was also the recipient of the French Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres in 1990, Sweden’s Polar Music Award in 2000 and several Doctorates including the University of St. Andrews and Princeton University as well as numerous other honors.

Robert Smith: The Cure to mount first-ever full South American tour next year

Fans of The Cure in South America are among the band’s most patient: Outside of two Brazilian concerts in 1996, Robert Smith and Co. haven’t toured there since the Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me trek of 1987, a 11-date tour that only hit Brazil and Argentina. That should change next spring, when Smith says The Cure will return to South America, playing Chile, Uruguay, Peru and Venezuela for the first time ever.

As fansite Chain of Flowers points out, Stage D Magazine interviewed Smith backstage at the Paléo Festival in Switzerland, where the band performed last night, and asked the frontman when The Cure finally will return to South America.

Smith’s response, as you can see in the video posted above, was: “We’re supposed to go there just after Easter next year. We’re going to play in every… not every country in South America. We’re not playing in Ecuador because people don’t play in Ecuador. But we’re playing Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Venezuela.”

The Cure last ventured to South America in 1996 for two January concerts in Brazil. The band’s only full South American tour came in 1987 in support of Kiss Me, when the group performed 10 concerts — although, even then, The Cure only played in Brazil and Argentina.

há uns doze anos, o the who teve algumas apresentações, fortemente, especuladas pros lados de cá…

que eu lembre, tipo, méxico, argentina, chile… e brasil ainda faltava bater o martelo!

o produtor brazuka tentou aquecer o assunto (THE WHO) convidando alguns “jornalistas entendidos” para conferir a banda, sei lá onde.

The Who Announce 36-Date ‘Quadrophenia’ Tour

‘We’ve been anxious to work together before we drop dead,’ says Pete Townshend

The Who have announced they will embark on a 36-date Quadrophenia tour this fall, performing their 1973 rock opera in its entirety. The band’s first North American tour in four years will kick off on November 1st in Sunrise, Florida, and wrap on February 26th in Providence, Rhode Island.

The band last took Quadrophenia on the road in 1996 and 1997. “We’ve been anxious to work together before we drop dead,” Townshend said in a press conference with bandmate Roger Daltrey in London today. Added Daltrey, “I don’t know how many more years I’ll be able to sing this music.”

In a statement, Pete Townshend said,” I really love playing all of it. It’s a unique piece for me in that. Some Who music is nightmarish to perform live. Roger has some very tough songs to sing, and he must have preferences. But for me on guitar, everything falls under the fingers. It flows naturally, and I always feel proud of my achievement as the writer, that I put it all together and gave the band a third wind.”

Before heading out on tour, the band will be featured in the finale of the Olympics.  “We’ve recorded a piece of music which I think is a fabulous ending for the Olympics,” Daltrey said. “This country put some fabulous music into the world. It wasn’t really about the Who being a on a TV show. It’s about just making great music that is applicable to the end of that event, where you’ve had people who have given the last eight years of their lives to be there on that field doing their thing.”

The lineup for the Who’s upcoming tour includes Daltrey and Townshend backed by Zak Starkey (drums), Pino Palladino (bass), Simon Townshend (guitar/backing vocals) and Chris Stainton, Loren Gold and Frank Simes (keyboards).

At the press conference, Townshend updated fans on his upcoming memoir, due this fall – and made a dirty joke about his buddy Mick Jagger.

Tickets will go on sale via the Who’s official fan club 10 a.m. on July 20 and will go on sale to the public Friday July 25th.
