Stephen Peter Marriott (30 January 1947 – 20 April 1991), popularly known as Steve Marriott, was an English singer-songwriter, guitarist and musician. He is best remembered for his powerful singing voice which belied his small stature and for his aggressive guitar playing in the rock groups the Small Faces (1965–1969) and Humble Pie (1969–1975 and 1980–1981).
In Britain, Marriott became a popular, often-photographed mod style icon through his role as lead singer and guitarist with the Small Faces in the mid to late sixties.[1] Marriott was influenced from an early age by his heroes including Buddy Holly, Booker T & the MG’s, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Muddy Waters and Bobby Bland. In later life Marriott became disillusioned with the music industry and turned his back on the big record companies, remaining in relative obscurity. He returned to his music roots playing the pubs and clubs around London and Essex.[2]
Marriott died on 20 April 1991 when a fire, thought to have been caused by a cigarette, swept through his 16th-century home inArkesden, Essex.[3] He posthumously received an Ivor Novello Award in 1996 for his Outstanding Contribution to British Music,[4] and was listed in Mojo as one of the top 100 greatest singers of all time.[5]
Black Sabbath frontman, Ozzy Osbourne, named Marriott the fourth greatest singer[6] and Clem Burke of Blondie named him the sixteenth greatest singer and wrote under his name, “greatest rock singe[r].”[7] Paul Stanley of Kiss has said, “He had a great voice” and went on to say, “Steve Marriott was unbelievable”. Keith Richards listed Marriott as one of his five favorite artists of all time. Steve Perry, of Journey fame, has claimed that, “One of my favourite vocalists was Steve Marriott.”[8]

“Salve Juventude!
No Jumbo Records o dia começou cedo, a la INPS: a loja abria às 9, mas a distribuição de senhas foi às 8 da manhã. O ronca ronca chegou lá meio atrasado, por volta das 9 e meia (culpa de sexta-feira regada a Guiness). As senhas já tinham acabado, mas a fila continuava grande – só com gente que não tinha senha, porque quem tinha senha ia ser chamado por ordem de chegada, já com a sacolinha (especialmente feita pra celebrar a ocasião) cheia de discos, e de quebra uma canequinha da loja. Clima comportadinho, todo mundo com medo de não conseguir as bolachas que queria, mas contente com o sucesso do programa. Gente de todo tipo e idade, mas todo mundo cheio de apetite musical. Felizmente pro ronca ronca, a procura era tanta que a turma da Jumbo resolveu racionar as pepitas. Que era pra todo mundo ter acesso à sua alegria. Cada um que pegava sua sacolinha saía mais sorridente que o outro, pegando logo no celular pra ligar pra alguém e dizer: “Consegui o Serious Sam Barrett! Crystal Castles e Steve Mason tão na mão!! Black Keys e Wooden Shjips também!!!!”
O ronca ronca conseguiu chegar ao balcão pra fazer seus pedidos ali pelas 11 e meia, quando as coisas já estavam sendo ajeitadas pro segundo show do dia (Wilful Missing). Incrivelmente, o ronca conseguiu tudo o que queria, incluindo Blur e Gorillaz (só foram impressas 1000 cópias de cada, pra serem distribuídas por todas as lojas). No que o ronca ronca mandou aquele cumprimento pra Jumbo, eles abriram o maior sorriso – aquele que vem com a satisfação de um trabalho bem feito e o reconhecimento estampado no rosto dos frequentadores – e mandaram: “A confusão tá grande mas tá boa. Mas vai ser melhor ainda ano que vem, quando a Jumbo vai soprar 40 velinhas…”
OH YEAH. Vida longa às lojas que estão por aí e às que virão!”

é a confirmação do óbvio – a loja de discos é um dos raros locais onde você pode colocar em prática sua paixão musical, inteira!
felizmente porraqui, muitas lojas têm conseguido sobreviver… e crescer.
terça feira passada, quando estive em porto alegre, conheci a “toca dos disco”.
a idéia era dar uma passada rápida para catar um cd específico… acabei ficando um tempão de papo como o rogério, the owner.
claro, encontrei muitas pepitas de primeiríssima grandeza… + camaradagem e profissionalismo.
vou aproveitar a descoberta da “toca do disco” para usá-la como exemplo da minha homenagem a TODAS as lojas brasileiras que continuam na ativa… e que seguem firme com todas suas múltiplas funções, sobretudo, a de alegrarem nossas vidinhas!

e, acima de tudo & todos, a quantidade de garotada correndo atrás das pepitas.
exemplo: quando eu ainda estava tocando, coloquei “on the corner” de miles davis na MK2… em poucos minutos, apareceu um sujeito (de uns 20 anos) perguntando pra mim – “tá vendendo o disco?”
